We are hoping that the Arowhenua Marae would be able to help us by supplying kaumatua and kuia who can Whaikorero and Karanga for us. Hendrix Brown worked with us last year while we practiced for a Marae visit. Unfortunately the Marae had to cancel. I'm not sure if Hendrix is still available but it would be great if he could be a part of the powhiri as he knows who we are, what we do and knows most of our students..
Our students have not had a chance to practice this year but I'm sure we can come up with a short Waiata or 2. The reason we are rushing this through is that I'm leaving Aoraki Alternative Education and I'd love to see our students have the opportunity to be officially welcomed onto the Marae.
I believe the value will be for them to understand the history, purpose and traditions of powihri to enable them to be more informed about what's happening in their local area.
Please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss further.
Thank you so much.
